About

Make Your Mark!

ID Action is excited to continue the success of our inaugural conference with a second Make Your Mark! Conference in 2015.

The Make Your Mark! Conference invites Iowans with disabilities to learn and grow as advocates. Our goal is that when attendees leave the conference they will have the information and tools they need to be active in their communities and Make Their Mark!

Each year, we hear the stories of Iowans who have made an impact in their community such as Lydia Dawley from Decorah who represented Winneshiek County in Iowa State Fair Queen Pageant. She wants everyone to understand that, “You shouldn’t be afraid to be yourself. Live your life from your heart and you will be successful.” And Mario Hughes of Mason City, who sharing his story and impacting the community through his work at a local hospital and by attending courses at a community college. Big and small, Lydia and Mario are making their mark, resulting in a better world for all of us.

ID Action is a non-partisan project that promotes the active civic and political engagement of Iowans with disabilities—people like Lydia and Mario, are just two of several hundred thousand people whose stories inspire us to continue to create opportunities to develop self-advocates and change agents.

Who Should Attend

Iowans with disabilities that want to make a difference in their community or state!

Conference Speakers

This year we will be bringing back Peter Leidy! Peter has been learning from people with disabilities since 1983. He is a consultant, facilitator, listener, learner, improviser and speaker who focuses on personalized supports and community membership for people with disabilities. He also writes and sings songs about human serviceland and those who find themselves connected to it. Learn more about Peter on his website or watch his entertaining videos on his YouTube channel!

Dave Price will also be returning the Make Your Mark! conference this year! Few television reporters in the country have spent more time with presidential candidates over the past decade than Dave Price. Price is the political director and weekend anchor at WHO-TV, the NBC affiliate in Des Moines, Iowa.
